Survey says that a wide margin of college graduates can’t write well

Atlanta, GA—April 9, 2015---Published author and researcher Edward Brown of Core Edge Image & Charisma Institute has added an online writing tutoring service to the company in a quest to help more students become college prepared and workforce ready. A survey by the Workforce Solutions Group at St. Louis Community College found that more than 60% of employers said applicants lacked “communication and interpersonal skills...” A wide margin of managers also said today’s applicants can’t think critically and creatively, solve problems, or write well (White 2013).  After reading these statistics, Brown saw an opportunity to supplement high school and college education by applying graduate school methods to learning.  Brown introduced Atlanta Public School’s GED students to the IRAC Method taught in most law schools for critical thinking as well as the rudiments for writing master’s level thesis papers. Brown credits using graduate school methodology as instrumental to improving high school students’ thinking and writing.

Brown, says, “I didn’t want to become involved in a ‘me too’ venture with the larger tutoring companies. When I read the Workforce Solutions Group survey, the need for better writing, critical thinking and problem solving skills resonated with me. With my law school experience coupled with a research-based master’s degree, I felt I could outcompete the larger tutoring companies by implementing graduate school level teaching to students. When previously low-performing students began researching and writing at a college level, I knew I was onto something. This venture affords me the opportunity to do good and well simultaneously.”

Core Edge Image & Charisma Institute is an applied research and internet marketing company that creates digital products and services to solve problems in niche markets. Core Edge Image & Charisma Institute was founded in Atlanta in 2002.

Smyrna (Georgia) is Not Ferguson or New York

The recent shooting death of Nicholas Thomas by Smyrna Police administering an arrest warrant should not be viewed in the same light as police actions taken across the country.  It is easy to put all police actions in the same box. However, to do so would create a contentious and endless cycle of blameworthiness. Suffice to say that in most police actions, an officer is responding to the overt actions of another individual. The point of contention becomes how an officer interpreted those actions.

Fortunately, WSB-TV has done an excellent job of bringing balance to the reporting of this incident. Since there reportedly is no video of all that transpired, we can decipher from a previous video that Mr. Thomas had a track record of encounters with the police. Because this information was introduced early, it quashed any comparisons between police actions taken in Ferguson, MO and New York. Although professional agitators would like to draw similar conclusions, none can be made. The cultural and political histories are different, which is why there were no violent protests in the streets of Atlanta.

Atlanta being the bedrock of the Civil Rights Movement may have effectively thwarted the stigma and volatility of less advantageous cities. Kudos to such advancements.
